SUMMER SOLSTICE AT EAGLE SUMMIT - 2005JUN21

Liz, Melissa, and I (and Melissa's two pups) drove up to Eagle Summit on Summer Solstice to watch the sun NOT set. This is apparently the best place near us to go and watch this phenomena. However, as you will see, we didn't get to see that happen. There was just too much smoke around from the fires, but we did get to have fun anyway.

Strong lady! And you thought God worked alone at getting the sun in the sky... Posted by Picasa

Notice the mosquitos around Melissa's head! They were everywhere along with some little gnat-like creatures! They all buzz and drive you crazy! Posted by Picasa

It's not hot! Posted by Picasa

Potty break on the Summit! This restroom is at the rest area below the summit. Posted by Picasa

We didn't get too many photos of the sun since there were low clouds forming and the smoke blocked it out the rest of the time. This was one of the few shots that we did get. The reason we took this trip was to see the sun NOT set, but, due to circumstances beyond our control, this isn't what we observed. Posted by Picasa

Poor baby! Got an ouie (sp) on the sharp rocks on this summit. Posted by Picasa

Took a few photos of the local plantlife while we were there. What are these? I looked them up, but have forgotten already. Posted by Picasa

Here's Liz placing a geocache we hid at Eagle Summit. For those of you not familiar with it go to www.geocaching.com. Posted by Picasa

Even though Melissa's not wearing a mosquito headnet, believe me, she's still being eaten alive! Posted by Picasa

Liz ready to take on the bloodsuckers that go for the face! Posted by Picasa

The mosquitos were absolutely horrible! Even Melissa's pups were donating blood! One of the pups was trying to eat the mosquitos faster than he could be bitten. Posted by Picasa

Raj is a seasoned parachuter. He marks the Summer Solstice by jumping from Eagle Summitt. Hope we see him there again next year! Posted by Picasa

Just checking. Posted by Picasa

Getting ready for lift-off! Posted by Picasa

Notice the layer of mountains and the haze of smoke. Hang on Raj! Posted by Picasa

Melissa's in the picture also photographing this event! Raj is about 1/2 way down. Posted by Picasa

Almost to the bottom! Posted by Picasa

This is the brave parachuter, Raj! What a cool guy. After finishing here, he was heading to Girdwood to parachute from the Alyeska Resort. Posted by Picasa
